United Kingdom 12 points? - Eurovision Song Contest

Each year there is one show on TV I try not to miss. The Eurovision Song Contest. It used to give you a bit of an insight into the musical culture of each country when the participants still had to sing in their mother tongue. It still kind of does but it seems to be more mainstream with a focus on a flashy show these days.

The contest has been going for almost 60 years now which makes it one of the longest running television programmes and one of the most watched non-sporting events in the world. It started with 7 competing countries. This number has gone up to 43 throughout the years.

One misunderstanding is that "Euro" in the name means that participating countries must be geographically located in Europe or be members of the European Union. Actually they must be Active Members of the EBU (European Broadcasting Area) which explains why countries as Morocco and Azerbaijan have taken part.

So to explain some of the facts and figures in more of a fun way we've designed this infographic for you.

And if you wonder how the infographic started...
