CREATIVITY SHORTAGE – IMPORTANT NOTICE

It has come to our attention that there is a severe Creativity Shortage. The scale of the problem became apparent when the design police were forced to stop the use of Comic Sans and Old English as this was leaving people desensitised to good design and causing major disruption to professional design companies.
We understand long lines of people have been forming wandering around aimlessly in a design void with some establishments offering free business cards and tempting offers of
websites while u wait.

“The actions of some designers are acting irresponsibly, using Times Roman and Brush Script and trying to palm off templates, and substandard work as good design,” said a spokesperson.

BUT DON’T WORRY HELP IS AT HAND!

ukcpi - 'About Us' leaflet

We've just completed this nice job for ukcpi (UK cleaning Products Industry Association). The brief was to come up with a design for their 'About Us' leaflet that makes them stand out from the crowd and has a good finish to present the quality of their services.

We came up with the idea of a square leaflet with a half circle die cut for the front cover that represents the shape of a bubble. The usage of bold colours gives it a fresh and modern look. Also these colours and the graphics tie in to their annual report we did recently. A mat laminate gives the whole leaflet a nice finish.

Do you like to go to work in the morning? - Inspiring Offices

Your workplace is that place in the world where you spend a lot of your lifetime. And whether you are a big corporation or a smaller business you want your employees to feel inspired and comfortable. Obviously if you are a big corporation you've got a bit more money to spend.

The new headquarters of LEGO in Billund (Denmark) show what can be done if you have enough 'petty cash' and want to give your people creative office space with an open lay-out, fresh colour combinations and functional design.

From a modern design to a more playful approach almost anything can be found in office design and here are some of the prime examples.

Oh, and this is my workplace. I do like it but can you spot the difference?
Maybe a walk through shark tank could be something for us...

"German Tuesday - Deutscher Dienstag": Mercedes Benz: Invisible Car

It sounds like science fiction but for their latest advertising campaign to promote their new hydrogen-powered F-Cell vehicle in Germany, Mercedes Benz have made the car invisible. The concept behind it is that with 0.0 emissions the car is basically invisible to the environment.

So how did they do it? Well, that's where it gets a bit technical so let's try to keep it simple. They covered the driver's side of the car with mats of LEDs and mounted a video recording camera on the opposite side of the car. They then were able to capture footage on one side of the car and display it simultaneously on the other end, which rendered the vehicle nearly invisible.

But they explain it much better in their video. And as you would have imagined the reaction of the German public was beyond belief.

404 error pages - an often overlooked page of your website

When I recently surfed the web I encountered a 404 error  as it quite often happens. But to my astonishment this page was really well designed. After seeing that one I got a bit addicted and every time I visit a website now, I check their 404 error page - with more or less pleasant results.

And as we at Mako are currently re-developing our own website it is something we're thinking about now as well.
Below are some of the prime examples so far (and believe me, I've got loads more).

"This page has been kidnapped!"

"To free this page please click here!"

So let's see what we come up with. We'll keep you posted...
